You know how we were all dying over The Wiz when it came on TV awhile back?
THAT’S how I was feeling during the UniverSoul Circus!
(Note: This is a sponsored post! However, all opinions expressed below are my own. Thanks for the tickets UniverSoul Circus! My daughter and I had a blast.)
Like seriously y’all, I almost freaking cried I was so happy!
No seriously, like I had to hold them tears back, it was serious. But I was happy, because watching all those kids perform like that is truly amazing!
Let me rephrase, watching ETHNIC kids perform like that is truly uh-mazing!
We always see white folks doing good, and I mean ALWAYS! It’s about gahdamn time we saw some of our folks do good too damn it!
But let me stop being a softy and give y’all this review. LOL
(FYI – I ain’t racist bruh, I’m part white my damn self and I’m still tryna find me some white friends, you know like the real white folks, not the ones we got here in the hood, they black I don’t know who they playing. LOL)
UniverSoul Circus Review
Okay, so we got there pretty early and lawd help me! There was this little boy throwing a damn fit for no apparent reason. (I think he just wanted to sit further behind, lawd help him. LOL)
He was practically still a baby, but like what the hell! The whole time I was just praying that he wouldn’t act up during the show because hmph.
But his mama was nice enough (and smart enough) to remove him from the tent until he calmed down. Whew!
Anywho, they kicked things off with some steel pan.
Excuse mi if my accent start to come out while I write this post eh. LOL (Please let me know if you need a translation after reading this.)
So yeah, they played the anthem on the steel pans and then they played the black anthem aka Lift Every Voice And Sing! Whooo! Them kids were good!
By the time they were done, everyone was starting to come in with their popcorn and snacks and I felt so bad for my daughter! I had already promised her popcorn but I totally forgot I needed cash!
Lucky for my daughter she’s blessed (like seriously blessed) and the guy in front of us heard me, and he offered her some of their popcorn. When I say some, I mean like we had a tiny cheese doodles bag because she ate that first, and he filled that thang up like three times. LOL I was beyond grateful!
He originally offered to buy her one after he bought his, but I told him that wasn’t necessary. (That’s when he offered to give her some.) Lawd bless that man!
Oh and he also bought her a bottle of apple juice during intermission. I think him and his friend went to get stuff for the kids and he brought her one! Like OMG! How nice is that?
This girl is blessed I swear, don’t nobody ever get me nothing. LOL What evs! Moving on.
I absolutely loved how they entertain everyone and interact with the audience.
I mean the main person doing his thang didn’t speak the whole time, he blew his whistle. (Like we supposed to understand what the hell he means, I don’t speak whistle, do you? LOL)
But when one of the sides weren’t clapping loud enough, he ran up in the stands and blew the whistle right in front of them like “helloooo wake upppp you gotta clap too damn it”. It was hilarious! LOL
I swear I love black people! Everythang we do turns into a damn comedy event. LOL
Anyway, here’s a few of the segments from the show!
Just so you know, these videos are 10-20 sec clips and not the entire segment! Y’all don’t think I was gonna show you the entire thing did you? LOL Go get those tickets! Trust me it’s worth it!
(Plus it looks a lot better in person, as someone who was there watching through a camera and in person, trust me on this one. LOL)
These Dogs Got Major Tricks
No seriously man they do! I’ve never been to a dog show before but I know well-trained dogs when I see them! Hell, I bet some of y’all can barely get y’all dogs to sit when you ask them too. LOL (Oh and there was a dog riding a scooter? Like how Sway? LOL)
African Dancers Killed It
Yo these African dancers are the truth! I’m not gonna lie!
I’m tryna snatch one up. JUST so we can dance though. These men could wuk waist boy! Not tryna hear my man’s mouth at all right now, but if you’re single, you know what to do. LOL
I was dead dancing in my seat. (But that may have to do with the fact that they were playing soca. LOL)
My daughter was a bit scared during this segment though. She really thought someone was going to fall, flipping from poll to poll. LOL I kept telling her that they practice a lot before they do this on stage so they’ll be fine.
My Audience Is Definitely Better Than Yours
So they pulled a few people from the audience and had them dancing on stage. It was too funny. LOL
He did the dance first, and they had to try to do the dance with him.
Aw man, just watch:
They also took our photo with the clown, but my stupid self didn’t have any cash and we couldn’t get our photo! I’m still upset!
Our photo was actually really, really good! But I’m pretty sure they already threw out what people didn’t buy, or I’d buy it now. UGH! (FYI – Bring cash with you! That is all.)
Soul Train Line Baby
Okay so they asked for a few people 30 and over to dance, but lawd help them. LOL
They were supposed to do old school dances and battle it out women against men, and some girl did the milly rock, I was like W D H? They definitely called her out for it too. LOL
Of course the ladies still won, just like Lenny Green said they would. (Yeah he was in the building for a bit.) But I still think they both sucked. LOL
Magic Show Failure
So the magic show is beyond funny! There’s two “magicians” and one can do magic, the other just thinks he can. LOL
It was dope, but the lady in front of us kept wondering how they switched people in and out the boxes and I sorta told her. LOL
I won’t spoil it for y’all though. But I’m still tryna figure out if that’s how they got those HUGE tigers in those cages too. Like huh? (I’m gonna need a backstage tour for this one, because I really would love to know the tricks! I’ve always been curious.)
Have you ever seen a bunch of women ride bikes, not pedal, but still got the bikes moving, even though they’re all standing? I have! LOL
(You could too, if you go to the circus, I’m just saying. LOL)
But it was cool. I’m really glad they told the kids not to try the tricks at home though. Nowadays, these kids really think they can do everything they see and don’t realize how much work people have put in to doing those tricks before doing it on stage. Smh!
More Audience Interaction
So let me just say how this man killed his serenade, but he probably had to sleep outside last night. LOL
Like he seriously KILLED it, but the host was like yo I feel her eyes on the back of my head dude, you’re getting kicked out tonight. LOL
And then she killed her serenade, threw shade at her man and he pulled her wig off! OMG! LOL But she danced right through it and kept going, it was CRAZY!
When I say our audience is better than yours just believe me. LOL
OMG! I did NOT know elephants were THAT big! OMG! My daughter now wants to ride one. LOL She asked if it was possible and I told her yeah, but probably in a different country. I guess we’ll figure that out later. LOL But that would be fun.
Let’s Wrap This Thang Up
Okay so I purposely didn’t tell you guys everything that happened last night, because I want y’all to go out and support these people!
They’re not paying me to say this don’t worry, and I don’t make ANY money off of it.
But when there’s a black event happening and it’s THIS good, I make sure I tell people, and boy was this good! My daughter is still telling me how much fun she had.
It was seriously uh-mazing and yes, I do think this is the #bestcircusever y’all!
So tell me, have you ever seen the UniverSoul Circus? Are you going this year? (FYI – You have until the 24th if you’re in or close to Brooklyn, NY!)
Talk to me!
(P.S – Here’s a few more photos from last night’s event!)
