The new year rang in y’all and believe it or not I almost missed it. I was so damn busy working on my blog and getting it all together that I didn’t even realize they had started the damn count down. LOL But just because I (almost) missed the count down (and definitely missed the New Year’s kiss) doesn’t mean the entire year is going to be a complete fail. (Or a repeat of 2016. LOL Because don’t nobody want that again!)
That’s why I was determined in the last few months of 2016 to get my life together, and to do it quick! Now this definitely isn’t a full complete list of all the things I’ll need this year. (Because for one, this list is totally missing a new apartment and a driver’s license. LOL) However, it’s a few of the things I noticed last year that I needed, to insure that I had a better year.
So here’s the 14 things I’m gonna use this year to get my whole entire life together!
Last year, I bought a damn iPhone because I needed a better camera for my photos. While it was a tremendous upgrade from my last phone (a Nokia ___ … something I don’t even remember, lol) it still wasn’t what I needed! So a few months ago, I decided to buy a REAL camera! Man oh man oh man is it everything I’ve ever wanted. I’ve even been teaching myself how to use it manually. (Actually, I’ve never used it in automatic mode. LOL) But yeah, it was totally worth the few hundred I spent for it, and this year I’m planning on walking around with it a lot more so I can practice.
Do you need a new camera? I totally recommend buying this one to start, so you can learn how to really use a DSLR before having to spend a grand on a camera and some lens you barely even use. You can buy one by clicking my affiliate link right here, because well, who doesn’t freaking love Target! LOL But if you’re a Target hater, or you just happen to have an Amazon Prime account and adore your free 2 day shipping (because I sure as hell do, lol) here’s an affiliate link for Amazon! (P.s – It’s way cheaper on Amazon. LOL Oh, and if you don’t know the deal with affiliate links, if you buy something using an affiliate link, I’ll receive a small commission for the sale. So thanks in advance!)
So I got my camera, and then I realized that if I ever wanted to do videos (which I do, because I’d love to record my interviews, so you can see how amazing the people I talk to really are) then I was going to need a tripod as well. I actually used it for the first time to take my header photos you see above, but so far, my life is already better. LOL Need a tripod too? Well I got an affiliate link for that too! LOL Click this to buy one. It’s like $20, and totally worth it!
I got this literally on Christmas day, because during a video I was making (which will be posted soon), my phone fell …twice! LOL I was pretty calm in the video, but I was mad as hell on the inside. That’s when I realized I needed something to attach my phone to my tripod so I wouldn’t have to worry about it moving. I purchased this one from Amazon right after I finished making my video! It’s super cheap too! I was totally expecting it to be way more than $8. LOL (I know it LOOKS cheap as hell, but it works!)
Okay, I promise this is the last camera item I’m gonna mention, but clearly photography and videos are important to me this year. LOL However, I’m gonna use this remote so I can take photos of myself, because I really do wanna start showing off my outfits. LOL (No seriously, I be looking real cute some days man, and don’t nobody be even knowing. UGH!)
I’ve been following Regina (from byregina.com) for a while now, and last year I didn’t have the money I needed to buy her blog planner. Well this year I went and got it, and I love it! It’s everything I need to keep track of for my blog, but all in one place. I still LOVE using my spreadsheets, but I recently found out that I work better when I write things down on paper.
How cute are these damn bowls and plates? I know you’re probably like how the hell is a few bowls and plates gonna make yo life better in 2017, but this is definitely another photography item once again. LOL Last year I didn’t take a lot of the food photos I wanted to because I hated my plates in photos. So this year, I’m partnering up with Cheeky Home, so I can have my food photos on fleek all the damn time. LOL (Wait, did we leave the term “on fleek” in 2016? No right? Kay, moving on. LOL)
Now I absolutely love Buffer, and I recently signed up for their paid account because with school, a job, a four-year old, and a blog, it’s kinda freaking hard to stay relevant on social media! But of course it’s freaking needed to stay relevant anywhere these days, right? LOL So a girl’s gotta do what she gotta do. And that means investing in a paid Buffer account so I can schedule out my posts before hand. (Don’t worry though, I’ll still communicate with you in real-time. LOL)
Have you ever taken your laptop on a crowded train and tried to do work? UGH! I swear I hate New Yorkers. LOL Like don’t you see me tryna work here? Do you REALLY have to sit next to me out of all the damn seats on this train? So I bought me this iPad keyboard. (That makes my iPad look like a mini Macbook. Don’t judge me. LOL) But this way, not only is it smaller, so I can do way more work on the train, or at least type up my blog posts and papers for school. But it’s also way lighter than my laptop! (Some of us don’t have a man to be getting daily massages, okay? Shiiidddd. LOL)
Now this right here! Shoooot. Last year I found out about Ebates and I just thought it was crazy talk, I’m not gonna lie. And then I decided to try it to see if it would really work. First off, they gave me $10 fo’ free, when I signed up with them, which was uh-mazing! And then I found out that this thang actually freaking works! Like, you really DO get money back.
So this year, I’m tryna see how much money I can make just from shopping online. (Which by the way, I always shop online. LOL) If you haven’t signed up for Ebates yet, do yourself a favor, click this link, and sign up right now! It’s super easy, and you’ll also get $10 when you sign up. (P.s – They deposit the money you make from them into your account, so this isn’t store credit girl, this real money! LOL)
No more wires for me! I bought a cheap pair of wireless headphones from Target a few months ago and OMG was it a life changer. The only problem was the sound! The volume was really, really low, even when it was all the way up, so I knew I had to get me a new pair. (Gon’ say that like how Nelly does, new pur. LOL) Now I absolutely HATE Beats by Dre, so I was determined NOT to buy them. That’s when I decided to read a few reviews and ended up buying these. Don’t worry, there will totally be a full review soon, if you’re wondering how well they work as well.
11. The Happiest Mommy You Know by Genevieve Shaw Brown
Because lord KNOWS I need to get my motherhood life together this year. I work way too much, and I always feel guilty for it. (And when I’m not feeling guilty, my lovely freaking parents make me feel like the worst parent on Earth!) So since the tagline on this book is “why putting your kids first is the last thing you should do”, and I’ve been struggling to get some damn me time, I thought this would be a great read this year.
12. Library Card
I haven’t had a library card in probably more than 10 years, but I’ve been thinking about getting one again so I can start going to the library and have an office for free. LOL I really hate working at home, and I’m always being judged or distracted, so I think it’s time for a change this year. I’ll let you know how it goes.
13. Pages app
If you’re an Apple head, you probably already use this app everyday. However, Pages is so much more than me just typing up my blog posts on the fly. I actually use it to keep track of my homework for school. What I do is copy and paste everything from Blackboard into pages, so that way I know what I need to do, and what I’ve already finished. Of course there are apps to do this, but Pages works the best for me.
14. iPhone Calendar app
This is another, “uh, duh” moment, because before last month, I wasn’t used my calendar app the way I needed to. However, my boss uses Google Drive on the regular, and she recently decided to make a calendar for us all, and started inputting dates for everything in it. I can’t tell you how happy I am about this. Getting those reminders for work makes things so much easier! Now I’m planning on doing this with everything else in my life! (Starting with tomorrow’s workout at Row House Chelsea! More on that later.)
And there you have it you guys! That’s my list!
What are some of the things you’re going to use this year to get YOUR life together?
