So if you haven’t heard, New York Fashion Week started yesterday, and this girl here has a few events to go too!
I honestly still can’t believe I slithered my way into this thang. I mean one moment I was thinking about going to Fashion Week and the next thing I know, bam, I’m going!
It happened so damn fast, I forgot I didn’t even have fancy clothes to wear and a good camera to use. But guess what, I’m just gonna have to make this ish work, because I ain’t passing up this opportunity baby!
So for the next couple of days, I’ll be tweeting, instagraming, facebooking, snapchatting and blogging my life away. (Along with having fun of course!) So make sure you’re following me on every thang, so you can get the full experience too. Hell, I may even get on periscope and broadcast for a bit. I don’t know yet.
However, I will be posting a recap of each event I go too, along with a recap of my entire Fashion Week experience, at the end of the festivities.
(But Lord how am I going to find time to do my homework? Lol)
Now, I may not be going to the big name designer shows, like Marc Jacobs, Monique Lhuillier or Tommy Hilfiger, but does that freaking matter?
No! I thought about it and I’m actually glad I’m going to see the “smaller” designers.
Not only do I not care for the big name designers, but I’ll probably never be able to afford them, so what’s the point? With the smaller designers, I can afford them, support them, and I’m pretty sure I’ll actually like what they’ve made.
(I rarely ever see something that I like from a big name designer. It’s actually quite sad!)
So here’s to the small(er) designers!
Now here’s what you’ve been waiting for, the list:
Runway Show | Thursday, February 11th 2016 | Gotham Hall | 7pm
Raul Penaranda was declared as one of the fastest growing entrepreneurs to come out of the small business industry by FORBES magazine only two years after debutting his luxury women’s wear line at the Mercedes Benz Fashion Week.
First Initial Reaction: Well damn! How do I get one of those pretty blue dresses from his S/S 16 collection without selling any of my limbs? (Maybe I should sell my hair? LOL) I’ve looked through his previous collections and they are to die for! (Like if you said, here Sanaa, and handed me anything from his collection, I’d probably faint. And I’ve never fainted before!) I can’t wait to see his F/W 16 collection!
Runway Show | Friday, February 12th 2016 | PIER 59 | 11am
iiJin (pronounced “e-gene”) means “precious” in Korean, however the collection fuses the grunge rocker attitude with a glam sensibility. The iiJin collection is coveted by celebrities such as, Kendal Jenner, Snoop Dogg, Kate Hudson, Nicky Hilton and many more.
First Initial Reaction: Give me that damn letterman jacket! No like seriously, someone go out and buy me one for my birthday, I don’t care if it’s from the last season, I’ll wear it for the next 5 years to come! I seriously haven’t seen a letterman jacket THIS good since, hell I don’t know, since letterman jackets first became popular? Which was years ago!
Runway Show Presentation | Friday, February 12th 2016 | Affinia Hotel | 4pm
Started by Cynthia and Mary-Jo, the Maison Cyma collections features their signature elements such as detachable recycled fur, fish leather and handmade smocking textures.
First Initial Reaction: Fish scales? Huh? *looks through collection* Oh wait, hold the hell up, this is GOOD! I freaking love their blazer! Like again, will someone PLEASE buy me one for my birthday? LOL I’m totally a blazer girl, hell I was wearing one when I wrote this, so I would probably wear this thang with everythang! (Just buy me one damn it.)
VIP Cocktail Reception + Runway Show | Friday, February 12th 2016 | VOGT Galleries | 6pm
PLY Apparel, is a black owned, boutique brand for plus sized women, was launched in 2013 by husband and wife design team, Pamela and Lamarr Nanton.
First Initial Reaction: Um, do you see those photos? She is killing it! And this is the ONLY plus size designer I’ll get to see, so I’m totally down for it! Not to mention their previous collections are also uh-mazing. This was the first event I got confirmed for, and it’s still my most anticipated show.
Runway Show + After Party | Saturday, February 13th 2016 | Metropolitan Pavilion | 11am
SBFW is the only business oriented runway show and market geared toward small business owners, emerging designers, and novelty designers that are looking to get their start by selling to small boutiques and unique shops.
First Initial Reaction: A fashion show full of small boutiques? YASSS! Like I said, I’ll never be able to afford those other designers, okay I’m lying. One day, I will be able to afford them, but even when that day comes, I doubt I’ll buy anything, especially not when I know there are smaller boutiques with clothes just as great. I’m definitely looking forward to seeing what these designers are bringing to the table this year.

But anywho, I’m really excited! I’ll be going to my first show tonight and I can’t wait. I’m no longer worried about what I’ll wear because I realized that it’s freaking freezing outside. LOL So jeans and tights it is!
(I don’t know how I’m gonna stand walking around in heels all day though, but I’ll figure it out.)
