OMG, I still can’t believe it!
This weekend, not only did I get to attend Full Figured Fashion Week’s final model casting and get to talk to the founder of FFFWeek, the casting director and one of their sponsors, but I ALSO got to work with them and help out!
Best experience ever!
Let me tell you right now, this post is EXTRA long because there’s about 5 different interviews in this thang alone, plus you know I gotta give you the extra deets (details) so if you’re looking at this post right now expecting to skim through it, you better stop it!
Save this post and set a reminder so you can read it when you have time, it’s totally worth it trust me! Especially if you’re interested in FFFWeek! Okay? Okay! Good!
Now let’s get this show on the road!
(Note: I’m going to randomly add the photos in, so you guys can see them. Excuse the fact that they may not go along with what I’m saying at the moment, but you’re eyes will thank me later, trust me. LOL)
On Friday, I got an email in my inbox, inviting me to attend FFFWeek’s final model casting here in NYC, so I could interview the founder of FFFWeek, Ms. Gwen Devoe, the casting director, Ms. Sharon Quinn and their sponsor, Fit For Me (Fruit of the Loom) brand ambassador and celebrity stylist, Ms. Denise Caldwell.
I was freaking estatic, but also on the brink of a nervous break down all at the same time. I mean, I’ve never even seen so many celebs at one time, let alone have to talk to them in one day. Not to mention the fact that I’ve never actually interviewed anyone in person in my entire life!
(I’m used to just emailing the questions and making it look like we had a real convo. LOL)
But not only was I nervous, I was also worried about working on a Saturday. I mean, I’m not just a blogger, I’m also a mother of a 4 year old, so I can’t just leave when ever I please.
However, I found out about FFFWeek last year and applied to cover the events, but something happened and I never got to go. (I think I had to work those days or something. Ugh!) And I knew this event could make or break me.
But if you don’t know what FFFWeek is, here’s the short version:
Full Figured Fashion Week launched in NYC with a partnership of 12 brands and approx. 200 guests who attended three small events and one large runway show, but that was in 2009.
Now in it’s seventh year, the event has expanded to include over 100 partners, including sponsors, independent designers, retailers, boutiques, fashion bloggers, and so much more!
There are over 20 events and 4 runway shows, featuring an array of fashion worn by 50 of the top runway models across the country. So as you can see this thang ain’t no joke! No sir, this event is HUGE!
Thankfully I said yes and showed up, because this was the best event I’ve ever covered!
I was one of the first people there, and not only did I have the first slot for interviews, but one of the first people I met that day was Ms. Gwen Devoe herself!
I walked out of the elevator and there she was at the desk talking to someone! My first thought? Hell naw, that can’t be her, she looks effing uh-mazing! (Excuse my fake French. LOL)
Not only did I see her, but I also got to say hi. I mean Ms. Devoe is like no other, she actually turned around and said hello to us, making sure we were okay!
From that moment I knew she was dope! I could just tell and my interview with her proved me right! Check it out below.
Exclusive interview with Ms. Gwen Devoe, Founder of FFFWeek:
You can’t tell me she’s not dope! I had SO much fun interviewing Ms. Devoe, it’s like we were best friends just catching up. But then again, she is a Virgo, just like moi, so yeah, that explains a lot! LOL
(Now I’m not worried to be a perfectionist manager one day, y’all gon have to deal with my crazy ass wanting every damn line straight and each font being a certain way, etc etc. Ha! LOL)
But Ms. Devoe is so down to earth, it’s crazy!
I mean she took the damn A train to her casting, not Uber (sorry, not sorry y’all lol), not a damn taxi, the train!
How many business owners you know still willing to take the train? Exactly! LOL
After I interviewed Ms. Devoe, she asked me if I was going to stay and hang out, and I said yes. Then of course I did the most natural thing to me and offered to help out, which of course she said yes! Whoop whoop! LOL
I got an official FFFWeek volunteer shirt and everythang! Y’all know I was hype.
But see THIS is what happens when you get to places EARLY, ya digg? Lol No seriously, I was literally there 45 minutes early, and that includes my Starbucks run. I was not playing. LOL
I was originally asked to help measure the models, but who the hell am I kidding? I’m no fashion expert, and I sure as hell don’t know how to take measurements properly. LOL
I was NOT about to mess anything up! No sir, not me. I know what I can and can’t do and taking accurate measurements for such an important event is not on my “can do” list.
So I stood by the door and directed the models, letting them know they could go straight in and calling out the numbers they were calling inside. You may think that’s a little job but to me it was perfect. LOL
A few moments later, someone whispered to me that Ms. Caldwell was here!
The Ms. Denise Caldwell you say? You mean the Ms. Caldwell that has worked with Beyonce, Kendal and Kylie Jenner, Mrs. Obama and more? Aw hell!
But guess what? She was just as cool as Ms. Devoe was! I got to ask her a few questions as well, so here’s our interview.
Exclusive interview with Ms. Denise Caldwell, Celebrity Stylist & Fit For Me Brand Ambassador:
I even got to take a few photos with her! (See below)
I’m working on asking everyone for photos, because I’m really not the type to care if we took photos or not, I’m not the “omg she’s famous” type, but I do want the phots to look back on. Lol
Anywho, Ms. Caldwell represents Fit for Me, which is the brand for Fruit of the Loom’s plus sized products, so here’s a bit more information about that as well.
The Fit for Me line offers a range of silhouettes, including briefs, high-cut briefs and a feminine boxer brief. (I actually love boxer briefs they’re way too comfortable. So if you wanna send me some, go right ahead. LOL)
The only thing I would say is that, they need to make some with prints! My underwear has to be cute too, darn it! But the colors are great.
As the premiere sponsor of FFFWeek for the second year, Fit for Me wants to empower curvy women to not only be proud of their curves, but to also flaunt them!
So they’re also encouraging women to share how they flaunt their full figure by sharing their photos on instagram and including the hashtag, #FullFiguredFlaunt. So make sure you participate!

I also got to personally meet the casting director, Ms. Sharon Quinn, you know right after she squealed because I had gummy bears and helped herself to some. LOL
(I guess I’m not the only one that hates Twizzlers! Whew. Lol)
But I didn’t want to disturb her as she did her thang for an interview, so bleh.
You guys will be okay, y’all got enough to read right? LOL Just know that she’s dope as hell, too!
(Y’all must be tired of hearing me say that, but I’m not joking, these people are uh-mazing!)
And if you don’t believe me here’s a video to prove how uh-mazing this women is!
(Please keep in mind that this video is old as hell, I mean 21 years old, so she may be even more fabulous today than she previously was. LOL)
Ms. Quinn was the 1st plus sized model to ever win the Maybelline Shades of You Model of the Year Competition in 1995. And if you didn’t catch that ciggarette drop, watch that video again!
Her cigg accidentally drops, and she’s so quick with it, she pretends that she did it on purpose, steps on it like she’s putting it out, and continues about her day like ain’t a damn thing wrong!
You can’t tell this woman nothing! OMG! I think every model needs to see this video because THIS is how you do the damn thang!
But before I get to these model interviews, let me tell you how some people are just …
Take this from me, and every other person you’re ever going to work with! If you’re supposed to be somewhere at 10am, yo ass better be there by no later than 9:50am!
I’m so serious, do NOT show up 3 mins before the damn door is about to close! Black folks don’t be playing when they say door closes at 1pm! You could get there at 1:00:15 (that’s 15 seconds after 1pm) and you’d be assed out baby, because that’s it!
So why did someone show up a few minutes before the door was about to close, begging her friend to get here on time, because she was outside parking?
I’m nosey as hell, and I was right beside her, so when she told her friend she had 7 minutes left, I told her no, tell her she has 5 mins!
(You know I had my purple staff shirt on, I figured I’d help these people out. LOL)
Why the hell she gon look at me and give me attitude talking bout, um no, according to my time it’s 12:51pm. Well no shit sherlock! We got the same damn time, don’t we? And I got a damn phone in my hand.
But if you tell her she got 7 minutes and she gets here in 7 minutes, y’all gon be tight when this door closes on you!
I’m not the one that wants to audition damn it and I was here 45 minutes before I needed to be (which was 15 minutes before everyone else was supposed to get here) so I’m straight boo!
I’m not the one for acting up in public, but like seriously, I’m black and everyone I know runs on black people time, except me and my folks, which is why I KNOW to tell people they have less time than they really do. Shiddd!
But what ever y’all, I still hope her friend makes the cut, she’s pretty as hell! And from what I can see they’re from outta state, so that’s why she was so late, not to mention finding parking in Manhattan is a b*xch! LOL
(We New Yorkers don’t drive to Manhattan for a reason. LOL)
Anywho, I didn’t want to bother the models while they were in stress mode, so I contacted a few via instagram and asked them a few questions, check it out below!
(They’re all freaking gorgeous and I hate them all. LOL JK)
What time did you wake up this morning to make sure you were here on time? I know these lines can get unbearably long.
Well I was driving in from Boston with a friend and fellow model so I woke up at 3:30am and made sure we were on the road by 5am. We got there a little after 9am before the line got too hectic. WHEW!! Lol
So there you have it you guys!
I had a freaking blast and now I can’t WAIT for FFFWeek this year!
Ms. Gwen Devoe herself asked if I would be attending and when I said “um, I might” like a damn fool, she almost cussed me. Which I don’t blame her! LOL
Then she said I’d better be going, so bam! I’m going you guys! LOL The founder herself said it, so it’s written in stone. Just place my face and name on my seat and I’ll be there!
But no seriously, this casting was so fun! I mean I went from press to volunteer in like 5 seconds, and I loved it! I love helping people anyway, and I’ve always loved events, so this was perfect.
Plus everyone was so down to earth and fun to work with, they made me feel like I was a part of their family, even though I had never met any of them before. (With the exception of one person.)
Hell they even included me in their group photo at the end!
I truly felt at home with them and now I can’t wait to attend!
As for the model castings, that was the last one, so they should be selecting their models within the next few weeks! I’ll keep you guys posted! Out of the hundreds that auditioned, they’re only picking 50, so even I’m a bit nervous! LOL
But I can’t wait to see who they pick!

Now tell me what you guys think!
I know this was a lot to swallow, I feel like I just wrote a 4 page article spread for a damn magazine. LOL So I know you must have something to say.
Hell, you better have something to say. Don’t let this be a one sided conversation y’all.
