So last week I attended the Fantastic Beasts (And Where To Find Them) world premiere here in NYC, (alone of course, because you know I’m friendless), and I had an amazing time! I got tickets thanks to a blogger friend of mine, and at the time I had no freaking clue it was the world premiere!
(I honestly just wanted to see the movie! LOL)
But then I got the confirmation email, which mentioned the “screening” was actually the world premiere and there was a freaking dress code!
Now the issue with screenings like these, is that they usually over book them to make sure they have a full house! So if you’re not there early, good freaking luck kid. Luckily for me, I was there an hour early, and managed to get a seat.
The only downside to getting there early is having to wait, because when you’re alone, that wait can feel like eternity.
I happened to look over to my left to see two ladies messing around with Snapchat, since the movie had it’s own filter, so I figured, why not kill some time right? FAIL! LOL (My old ass clearly no longer knows how to use Snapchat since it’s updated and so I struggled for the next twenty minutes trying to get that stupid filter to pop up, with no success.)
And just as I was tweeting Ms. J. K. Rowling, she walked right freaking past me, on her way to her seat! Like what? I was so freaking mad! OMG! I could have said hi! But whatever, a few moments later, they introduced the main cast, and I managed to grab this video of them before they left the stage and started the movie.
After someone had to remind me to put my phone away, (embarrassing), the movie began, and from the moment it started I was hooked! The first beast made it’s appearance and the damn thing was funny as hell! It’s personality was amazing, and I just wanted to squeeze it, despite it’s claws. (I mean it looked like a furry, little, cute stuffed animal, don’t judge me. LOL)
Then I found out the movie takes place right here in NYC, which is dope as hell, since you know Harry Potter is in the UK and what not, I could finally “relate” to this one. (Despite being a No-Maj myself, the “American” word for Muggle, or person with no magic.) But can I stop here to ask a serious question?
Was “being sexy” one of the casting requirements for the men in this movie?
I swear! Like OMG! Just look …
Okay, okay, stop judging me. LOL But seriously, this movie is awesome! The acting is great, the creatures seem so freaking real, even if some are ugly. LOL And the No-Maj, played by Tony Award winner Dan Folger, has got to be THE best “muggle” ever! LOL He was just as fascinated with magic, as we are. Well, at least that’s what it felt like watching the movie.
Fantastic Beasts makes NYC look like a whole new world! A world that I’d love to live in with these creatures, not this crap I currently live in. (Yeah, I live here. LOL) Which is probably why this movie made me feel proud to be from NYC. Not only was it absolutely crazy that a regular ol’ New Yorker like me managed to go to a fancy shmancy world premiere, but this movie made NYC look so damn good, by the time it was over, I was walking back to the train with my head held high.
Fantastic Beasts (And Where To Find Them) is really a magically entertaining journey through NYC.
There isn’t as much magic as you’d think there would be in the movie, and not as much drama as the Harry Potter series either, but honestly it’s not really about the magic or the drama, it’s about the Beasts that Newt Scamander is trying so hard to protect. And the movie does a great job of convincing me that these beasts should be protected! The movie showcases them as amazing creatures, even if one of them is a complete thief. LOL
Half way through the movie, I realized who Newt really was! (I won’t spoil it for anyone here, but if you don’t know who he is, subscribe to my email list here to gain access to my VIP chat room, and I’ll tell you who he is in there. We can have a whole freaking discussion about this movie if you want. LOL)
But it was absolutely great just seeing the adults in the Wizarding World for a change, even if a few of them were chasing roaches at one point.
(Don’t ask, just go watch the movie. LOL)
Even though I sat in a really bad seat, third row from the front, all the way on the end, the sound still sounded amazing! And the music really fits the movie. I have absolutely no complaints about the production of this thang.
But omg, when they killed him, I swear I wanted to cry! (Totally not telling you who died though, you’re going to have to watch the movie to find out, sorry, no spoilers here.) But this movie really took me through the motions man! One moment I was laughing, the next moment I was on the verge of tears, and the next moment my heart was breaking!
Fantastic Beasts is amazing! It’s powerful, it’s terrifying, it’s heartwarming, it’s stunning, it’s touching, it’s captivating, it’s all those things wrapped up in one, and any real Harry Potter fan will be blown away by how great this movie is and how amazing the Wizarding World really is!
The crowd clapped three times, and lord only knows how many times we all laughed!
And boy, when Johnny Depp made is appearance, everyone was like …
It was so funny. LOL So if you’re one of those folks that heard all those bad things about Johnny Depp being in this movie, just ignore them! (Trust me on this one.)
But I’m not gonna lie, the ending of this movie left me wanting a part two, and apparently there IS a sequel, so I can’t freaking wait!
Being there at the world premiere was incredible! The feeling you get listening to the family and friends of the actors cheering at the end of a job well done, is amazing! I stayed (until they kicked us out) to gather my thoughts and watch everyone leave. Funny enough, I felt like a reporter for some reason. But I mean, I was taking notes throughout the entire movie, in the dark, so maybe that’s why? LOL
But it was really freaking hard to leave! I just felt at peace by the time it was done, I don’t know if it had anything to do with the music, or not. But whatever, it was great, and if you’re a Harry Potter fan, I definitely suggest you go see this for yourself. I kinda wanna see it again, but this time in 3D, and in the middle of the theater so I can get the full experience.
How about you? Are you going to see Fantastic Beasts when it comes out on Nov 18?
