A few days ago, my sister and I, I mean, my assistant and I, attended a Simply Caribbean food tasting event and it was the bomb diggity! (Do people even still say that? LOL Does it even freaking matter? LOL) Either way, it was freaking uh-mazing and I can’t wait to attend another. (Although this time I think I’ll be attending one of their cooking classes!)
But before I head into why you should attend a Simply Caribbean food tasting event, I’d just like to take a moment to say thank you to Deborah for our complementary tickets, and for allowing me to attend. I had a wonderful time! Please note that although our tickets were complementary, this review is 100% valid, I mean true. LOL
Here’s 8 reasons why YOU need to attend the next food tasting event Simply Caribbean hosts:
1. Not only was the food was uh-mazing, but so were the founders/cooks.

Of course Deborah is clearly the brains of this operation, but her husband Bryan, who also cooks, is clearly the life of the party. As he talked about the foods we were being served, he made a point to include at least one joke per meal, and if it got quiet, he talked to us, and checked in every so often to make sure we were having a good time! (Now if only I could get my waiters and waitresses to do the same damn thing whenever I go out to eat! LOL)
2. You’re a foodie, or you love Caribbean food!
Either way, you’ll love their tasting events! We tasted 7 different dishes, along with a drink, from popular dishes such as rasta pasta and jerk chicken (pictured above), to even a more upscale, wedding friendly or dinner party dish, such as their ackee and salt fish bruschetta. And if you’re vegetarian, there are options for you as well, like their baked tilapia with mango and pineapple salsa (featured photo), and their curried green beans.
3. They make you feel right at home.
From the moment I met Deborah and Bryan, to the moment I left, I felt like I was right at home. Maybe that has something to do with the fact that Deborah and I had already “known” each other from the innanets, lol, or maybe it’s a Caribbean ting? I don’t know, but it was great!
4. You can take home left overs!
If this doesn’t sell you on attending one of their events, then I don’t know what will! LOL Do you know how great it was to taste their wonderful food, and then be able to actually take some home so you can eat it later on? It’s like going to a friend’s BBQ or party, and being able to take food home after! Of course this option is only available to their VIP ticket holders, but it’s totally worth the extra mula!
5. They don’t make you feel bad if you don’t like something.
I’m picky as hell, but over the last few years, I’ve opened up a bit and now I’ll taste things just for the sake of it, even if I know it’s probably something I won’t like. So when I tasted something and decided that I couldn’t finish it, like everyone else, having Bryan personally say it’s totally okay (even though we both understood that I was clearly wasting valuable, good tasting food) meant a lot to me. There were no judgements, and no side eyes from across the room.
6. They bring pepper sauce!
If you’re Caribbean, then you already know the joy of being able to put pepper sauce in your food! (Unless you’re one of those weird folks that doesn’t like pepper sauce. LOL) So yeah, this one goes without saying. Having the option of being able to add pepper sauce to any of the dishes was a great added bonus! Because unlike Bey, and *ahem* Mrs. Clinton, I do not walk around with hot sauce in my bag! LOL (Swag!)
7. You’ll learn about the food, not just eat it.
Not only was Bryan the server and comedian of the night, but he was also our teacher. Bryan talked about the dishes as he served them, and gave us great insight as to how hot peppers can really be! (Let’s just say, I won’t be touching a Ghost pepper any time soon! LOL)
8. You go home with a full stomach!
This was literally the highlight of my night! By the time our tasting was over, I was FULL! Like, I just wanna lay here and sleep, full. LOL Although the portions you receive look small, they’re not!
Bonus Reason: They have a BYOB policy.
Yep! Although they’re not allowed to serve you alcohol, you’re more than welcomed to bring your favorite bottle of bubbly to enjoy with your meal!
So what are you waiting for? The next Simply Caribbean food tasting event is September 18, 2016! Grab some friends, grab a bottle and get your VIP tickets today. VIP tickets are $70 a pop, but right now they’re on sale for only $50! (And trust me when I say the price is TOTALLY worth it.)
